Chief Qazi of Dibrugarh Alhaz Mirza Zillur Rahman Baig passes away in road mishap

DIBRUGARH: In an unfortunate turn of events, the Chief Qadi/Qazi (magistrate or judge of Islamic laws) of the Dibrugarh district, Alhaz Mirza Zillur Rahman Baig, passed away in a road accident near Mayodia in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday. The vehicle — carrying him, his family members and acquaintances — tumbled around 300 metres down, leading to his death.

Till the filing of this news, his body was in a hospital at Roing in Arunachal Pradesh, and was expected to be brought to Dibrugarh after the due formalities by Tuesday noon. The other people in the car sustained injuries and were undergoing treatment.

Qazi Zillur Rahman Baig was a resident of the Mirzabagh area of Dibrugarh, and was a much revered figure among different sections of the society.

The persons injured in the accident are Atifa Azhar, wife of late Maulana; Mirza Mahmud Rahman, son of late Maulana; Fahim Ahmed, a family friend; and vehicle driver Alfred.
