Police on Saturday night arrested three Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh cadres namely Mustafizur Rehman, Safikul Islam and linkman Danish Ali from Barpeta and Nalbari districts. While Mustafizur who runs a mobile phone shop, was arrested from Chatla in Sarthebari in Barpeta district, police arrested Safikul from Kaplawari in Moukalmua in Nalbari district. Safikul runs the Kaziranga Nursery at a plot of land owned by a former Congress minister. Both Mustafizur and Safikul are trained cadres of JMB. Mustafizur hailed from the same village in Barpeta district where the police arrested a dreaded JMB cadre Sahanur Alam involved in the 2014 Burdwan blast. Danish Ali was arrested at Howly in Barpeta.

Robin Kumar, SP of Barpeta said two Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh cadres and a linkman were arrested on Saturday during operations conducted on specific information. “The police was keeping a watch on JMB’s activities for a long time,” he said.

The police conducted a raid at Bhawanipur in Barpeta district on Monday night and arrested a hardcore JMB cadre Hafizur Rehman from there. The police seized a country-made revolver and four live rounds from him. Following Hafizur’s arrest, the police conducted a raid on Tuesday and arrested two trained JMB cadres, Sariful Islam and Yaqub Ali, from Koyakuchi area in Barpeta. Another JMB linkman Hanif Miya was arrested near Dhaligaon in Chirang district on Wednesday.
