Information about How to get Water Supply Connection

Need connection for the supply of potable water? You need to move to the agency concerned supplying drinking water to your area with an application in a prescribed form. You need to give the details of your landholding and up-to-date receipts of taxes paid along with your application.

While some of the agencies charge application fees, some don’t.

The agency concerned will conduct field verification and estimate the amount to be charged for the water supply connection. The agencies do take a security deposit for giving the water supply connection. If everything is ok, the connection is given in a week’s time. Each consumer has to pay a monthly subscription.

In Guwahati three are different agencies – the GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation), the Assam Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board (AUWSSB) and the Public Health Engineering (PHE) – cater to the needs of drinking water. While the PHE supplies water to all Central and State government offices, the GMC and the AUWSSB supply water to the people of the metropolitan city. However, since July this year the GMC and the AUWSSB have not been giving fresh connections for water supply since repair works have been underway. The two agencies, however, receive applications for fresh connections.

Meanwhile, the Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water & Sewerage Board (Guwahati Jal Board) has sought applications with DD/bankers check/IPO of Rs 500 in favour of its Managing Director from consumers of Guwahati who are interested to have water supply connection with meters. The areas covered under this facility are Temple Ghat, Durga Mandir Road, B. Ed College Road, Panchapandab Mandir Road, Pandu College Road and all the bye-lanes on the left side from Maligaon to Kamakhya Gate.
