NRC Assam: Congress to Move Supreme Court

GUWAHATI: The Congress has said that the State government sharing some vital NRC information on the floor of the Assembly on Thursday is a contempt of court since there is a stricture from the apex court asking all concerned not to share any NRC information.

Addressing the media here on Friday, CLP (Congress Legislature Party) leader Debabrata Saikia said: “In its order issued on September 19, 2018, the Supreme Court of India issued a directive to all concerned not to share any NRC related information with anyone without permission from the apex court. When there’s such a ban, how come the State government share some vital NRC information with the Assembly on Thursday? Is this not a contempt of court? We’re going write to the Supreme Court on this violation. It’s certain that the State government will be made accountable for violating the court order.”

The CLP leader also said that the just-concluded summer session should have been extended as a number of important issues have not been discussed. He also alleged that the State government has misled the House by giving some false information.
