This decision was taken following the detection of 11 fresh cases of COVID-19 — including the SP (Superintendent of Police) in the office of the CM's (Chief Minister's) Special Vigilance Cell — stationed in the Rupnagar SP office here on Thursday.

Sources informed that the containment period will continue for seven days. The four boundaries of the containment zone comprise the ASTC Workshop (North), GMC Road (South), Srimantapur Road (East), and the Rupnagar Main Road area (West).

A top source in the Directorate of Health Service said, "Approximately 13 lakh people across the State are yet to be administered the first dose of anti-COVID vaccine across the district. Of them, a section includes the women who are going Nature's way; and those suffering from various ailments. However, the major cause of concern is that the major chunk of the city's pop[uation have ignored the repeated appeals of the government to go for vaccination."

The source pointed out, "We targeted 2.28 crore to be vaccinated on the base of the current voters' list", adding that "as on Wednesday, altogether 2 crores of these people have been inoculated with the first dose of vax."
