GUWAHATI: Before the Assembly elections, the AASU (All Assam Students' Union) has decided to move the masses over the burning issues afflicting the Education sector in the State. The organization has decided to organize two conventions in this regard. The AASU has also appealed to the masses to offer their suggestions during these meetings.

Talking to The Sentinel, AASU president Dipanko Kumar Nath added, "We have observed with concern that even in the pre-poll rallies during the last few Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the political parties remained silent on the Education sector. Their manifestoes hardly mention this important issue. On the other hand, they simply remain busy in blame games.

Nath stressed, "Skill-based courses are the need of the hour. This will ensure that the students will be gainfully employed after they complete their formal education up to a certain level."

He added, "The next AASU executive meeting will finalize the convention dates. One will be held in Guwahati and the other in upper Assam. We will seek views from a cross section of the society besides the students and the educationists. Their suggestions will definitely help us in framing the blueprint for revamping the State's Education sector. In short, the sector must be modernized in keeping with the demands of the time."

The AASU has been playing a significant role in each Assembly election, said Nath, adding, "We want to ensure that the greater Assamese society is safeguarded in all sense of the term. This time also, we will remind the masses of their very important roles as electorates. We will urge them to exercise their right to franchise with logic, conviction and determination. In other words, the future of Assam is in the hands of the masses of Assam."
