Assam: 937 commercial cases pending in state courts

At the end of the month of November 2024, a total of 937 commercial cases were pending at different courts in various districts under the jurisdiction of the Gauhati High Court.

Guwahati: At the end of the month of November 2024, a total of 937 commercial cases were pending at different courts in various districts under the jurisdiction of the Gauhati High Court. Significantly, there were 905 such cases pending at the start of the month while 62 cases were instituted during the month and 30 cases were disposed of.

A commercial case, also known as a commercial dispute, is a legal action that involves a disagreement between two or more commercial entities. A commercial dispute is a disagreement between commercial entities over a business arrangement. This can include disputes over partnership agreements, intellectual property rights, insurance, mercantile documents, and more. 

During a commercial case, one or both parties involved in a commercial dispute can file a lawsuit and take the disagreement to court. The purpose of a commercial case is to enforce rights, seek damages, or defend against claims.

There are many such commercial cases pending in different courts; for instance, at the Court of the Civil Judge (Senior Div.) cum Asst. Sessions Judge in Kamrup (Metro) district, there were a total of 446 cases pending at the end of the month of November, as compared to 438 at the start of the month. During the month, 14 new cases were instituted and 6 cases were disposed.

Similarly, there was a total of 120 cases pending at the end of the month of November, as compared to 108 at the start of the month. During the month, 21 new cases were instituted and 9 cases were disposed of in the district of Sivasagar.

In Nagaon district, there was a total of 109 cases pending at the end of the month of November, as compared to 112 at the start of the month. During the month, 3 new cases were instituted and 6 cases were disposed of.
