Assam: Academic calendar for 2025-26 provides for 254 working days

Guwahati: The School Education Department published the academic calendar for 2025-26 for Class 'Ka' to VIII, which provides for 254 working days in the year. A significant proposal in the calendar is to hold classes on Sundays in the event of classes being suspended for a long duration due to floods or other reasons.

For Classes 1 and 2, the calendar stipulates 90-minute periods for language in a day or 450 minutes in a week. Similarly, 60-minute periods per day or 300 minutes per week have to be devoted to mathematics classes.

In the event of the death of prominent personalities, condolence meetings can be held only after classes. A half-day suspension of classes or holidays cannot be announced without permission from the district authorities concerned.

Daily classes should have a total duration of 3 hours and 10 minutes for pre-primary students and 6 hours and 25 minutes for other classes.

The calendar provides for activities like compulsory tele-education sessions for Classes VI to VIII every month, 10 school bag-less days in a year, and participation in arts and culture classes. Extra time may be allowed to students to complete their assignments, if necessary. For classes V and VIII, if students do not display good results in the annual examination, they have to be provided with extra classes for improvement, re-examination should be held and the students should be allowed to enrol in the next higher class.

Summer vacation will be declared as per directions from the Education department. However, summer vacation in the Barak Valley will last five days less than in the Brahmaputra Valley. The five extra days will be added to the Puja holidays.

During the academic year, teachers have to participate in various trainings conducted by the NCERT, SCERT and SSA. 

The calendar for the academic year 2025-26 was prepared by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). The academic year 2025-26 will start from April 1, 2025.
