Guwahati: In a move aimed at providing major relief for state employees, the Assam government has extended the benefits of the 'Apon Ghar' interest subvention scheme to regular employees of notified state public sector undertakings (PSUs) and contractual employees of state government societies and organizations.
As per a notification issued by the Finance (Audit & Fund) Department, regular or permanent and contractual employees engaged up to the age of 60 years in the following organizations are now eligible for the scheme: National Health Mission (NHM), Assam; Samagra Shiksha Axom (SSA); Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd. (APGCL); Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. (APDCL); and Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Ltd. (AEGCL).
Under the scheme, eligible employees can avail a home loan up to Rs 30 lakh at just 1% interest. Employees must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their HR Managers certifying their regular employment status to avail the benefit.
In case of resignation, termination, or any other cessation of employment, beneficiaries will be required to obtain an NOC from their employer, and the benefits will cease from the date of their departure from the organisation concerned.
It was also mentioned that the scheme's terms and conditions, as specified in previous notifications, will remain unchanged.
As for the extension of Apon Ghar benefits, the state Cabinet had earlier, in its meeting on May 10, 2025, approved the proposal to extend the benefits of the Apon Ghar Scheme with the loan threshold limit of Rs 30 lakh to both regular employees of notified State Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and contractual employees of State Government Organizations, whose services are notified up to the age of 60 years.
