Guwahati: For identification of potholes on roads, the state government is planning to develop an app. The state PWD department will then repair the potholes according to the identified potholes.
This was announced last night by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma through a video on a social media platform. In the video, he said, “When I was thinking about the road infrastructure, I had an idea. If people could take photographs of potholes and upload them on an app, and the PWD repaired such potholes immediately, it would be wonderful. Initially, we are thinking of launching the initiative in the five cities of Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Tezpur, Jorhat, and Silchar. As soon as people notice potholes in the five cities, they can take photographs with geo-fencing. With the help of geo-fencing, the PWD will know the exact location of the potholes. Then, the PWD will repair such potholes within two days. It will be a new concept for a new Assam, and I have already instructed the PWD to develop the app. We will launch the app in April or May.”
Regarding the coal mine disaster in Umrangso, the CM said, “This incident has pained me greatly. We will see how we can help the victims’ families. I assure everybody that those responsible for the incident at Umrangso will not be spared.”
On the subject of road accidents on New Year, the CM stated, “We tried to minimize road accidents on the occasion of New Year and after. Last year, in 2024, a total of 92 persons lost their lives in road accidents from January 1 to 10. This time, the number of fatalities has come down to 74. We want that not a single person should perish in accidents. So, I appeal to all not to indulge in drunk driving.”
The CM further stated that the flag-hoisting on this year’s Republic Day will be done by him in Dibrugarh.
