Guwahati: Way back in October 2016, the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) awarded the work on the construction of a 4-lane National Highway from Jamuguri to Biswanath on the north bank of the Brahmaputra River to a construction firm. The original scheduled date of completion was June 2019, but this stretch of NH has not been fully completed by the firm until now. Due to this, a new contractor has been engaged to complete the balance of the work.
The total length of the stretch of 4-lane National Highway from Jamuguri to Biswanath on the north bank of the Brahmaputra River is 26 km. Originally the work was awarded to TK Engineering Construction Pvt. Ltd. on October 13, 2016. Subsequently, the NHIDCL issued the appointment date for commencing the work on December 19, 2016. The firm was supposed to complete the work by June 16, 2019. But the tardy pace of progress resulted in the NHIDCL issuing directions to expedite the work. Still, the firm could complete 90% of the work after a delay of more than 5 years.
Due to the poor progress of the work by the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor, bids for the balance work were invited at the risk and cost of the EPC contractor, and a new EPC contractor has been appointed for the same. The firm of M/s Ganapati Bharat Pvt. Ltd. was awarded the balance work, and the work by the new contractor commenced on December 6, 2024. The revised target of completion has been set for six months from the appointment date.
