GUWAHATI: The BTR has become the political epicentre, with the BTC poll barely two months away. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has been in the BTR for the past few days, during which he addressed several meetings. APCC president and MP Gaurav Gogoi is also not lagging behind. He is at Udalguri today.

The preparation of the electoral roll for the BTC poll is underway. The final photo electoral roll for the BTC poll will be published on August 18, 2025. The Chief Minister hinted that the BTC poll would be in September 2025.

As of now, all major political parties—the UPPL, BPF, BJP, and the Congress—have planned to go it alone in the BTC poll. Even the AGP is also going to field candidates in a few seats.

The BTC poll being the last major electoral showdown before the 2026 Assam assembly poll in the state, all major parties of the state have been working hard for better performance. The Chief Minister today addressed several meetings at Goreswar.

He was at Kokrajhar yesterday. He had been in the BTR last week also. Gaurav Gogoi today addressed a meeting at Udalguri, besides meeting several sections of people.

Speaking to the media, state BJP president Dilip Saikia said, “We’ve appointed some observers for the BTC poll. We’ll take decisions based on their reports. We’ll fight the poll with the mindset of winning.”

The UPPL and the BPF have also been working very hard to woo voters.

The last BTC poll was held in two phases on December 7 and 10, 2020. In the 40-member house, while the UPPL won 12 seats, the BJP won 9 seats, the BPF won 17, Congress won 1, and the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) won 1 seat. The UPPL formed the council with support from the BJP.
