Dibrugarh: The Assam Cabinet, in today’s meeting, decided to issue show cause notices and draw up departmental proceedings against 682 government employees who have been deriving the benefits of the Orunudoi scheme, despite being employed by the state government.
After the cabinet meeting concluded, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, according to rules, in the case of securing a government job, one becomes automatically ineligible to derive benefits from the Orunudoi scheme. It came to the government’s notice on cross-checking that 682 government employees have been getting the money under the Orunudoi scheme, he said. So, the Cabinet decided to issue show-cause notices and directed the employees to return the money taken by them and that strict action will be taken against them, he added.
The cabinet also decided that the Assam International Skill Centre will be set up in the state for training the youths who earlier used to go to other states for training.
The Chief Minister said, “We have taken a decision in today’s cabinet that we will open an Assam International Skill Centre in the state where youths of the state can take training. In Guwahati, we will set up the main centre, and in other areas, small centres will be opened. We have seen that many youths of Assam go to other states for imparting training on skill development. After its opening, the youths can take the training in their own districts.”
The CM further said, “From January 2025, the Gaon Burahs of forest villages will get a monthly stipend of Rs 9000. We have taken this decision because they are serving the society without any stipend.”
He also said, “The year 2025 will be observed as Book Year. We will organise the Guwahati Book Fair in Khanapara, and every minister will participate in the fair and purchase books from the fair.”
