Assam Cabinet expanded; portfolios shuffled

GUWAHATI: The induction of two new ministers in the State Cabinet today led to the shuffling of the portfolios.

State Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi today administered the oath to Haflong MLA Nandita Garlosa and Nalbari MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah as ministers. While Nandita Garlosa got Power, Cooperation and Mines and Minerals, Jayanta Malla Baruah got PHE (Public Health Engineering); Tourism; Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship.

The reshuffle relieved Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary of Industries and Commerce, Transport and Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship. The new assignment given to him is Forest and Environment, earlier held by Parimal Suklabaidya, who got the Transport portfolio, besides his existing Fishery and Excise.

The reshuffle relieved Bimal Borah of the Power and Tourism departments and gave him Industries and Commerce.

Minister Ranjeet Dass lost the PHE portfolio and got the GAD (General Administration Department), besides the existing P&RD (Panchayat & Rural Development) and Food and Civil Supplies departments.

Wishing the two new Cabinet members, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "With enthusiasm, concentration and serious services, both the ministers will be successful in ensuring the overall development of the state. I extend my best wishes to their contributions to ensure development and public welfare in the state."
