GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet today took some important decisions like setting up a commission for the Right to Public Services Act, setting up a state-level appellate tribunal for Goods and Services Tax (GST)-related complaints, and launching a digital platform for beneficiaries of all government schemes.

The Cabinet has decided that under the Assam Right to Public Services Act, a commission office will be set up. The commission will include a chief commissioner and two commissioners. If due to any public servant’s negligence, the delivery of public services is delayed, people can complain against that public servant before the commission. If the commission finds the public servant guilty, action will be taken.

The Cabinet approved the framework of the ‘Digital Infrastructure for DBT Schemes (DIDS)’ platform, and subsequent rollout and adoption of the platform to streamline the disbursal of welfare benefits to citizens. This will be done to prevent any duplicity and to ensure that in case of any emergency, the government can extend immediate help and assistance to beneficiaries.

A state-level appellate tribunal will be set up in Guwahati where people can register GST-related complaints. To commemorate 200 years of Assam Tea, the Cabinet granted tax exemption on agricultural income for three years w.e.f April, 2023. The Cabinet also approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Olympic Committee and the Abhinav Bindra Foundation for implementing Olympic value-education programme in 250 government and private schools in and around Guwahati. This is expected to boost the sports sector of the State.

The Cabinet approved the amendment to the Assam ESI Doctors’ Service Rule, 2000 to reduce the service period for promotion of ESI doctors from the existing five years to two years.

Out of the 37 Adarsha Vidyalayas which have been completed, 19 are in the tea gardens. The Cabinet decided that all 37 Adarsha Vidyalayas will be inaugurated on June 19 and June 20 district-wise by ministers.

It was also decided that on June 28 and June 29, each of the Bihu artistes who had participated in the Bihu dance programme to create a Guinness World Record will be distributed a cash award of Rs 25,000 district-wise. The reserve category artistes will also get Rs 10,000 each.
