
Rename Dibrugarh Airport as Dr Bhupen Hazarika Airport t One-time assistance of Rs 5,000 to tea workers

Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet, in today's meeting, resolved to rename Dibrugarh Airport as Dr Bhupen Hazarika Airport, roll out Assam Tea Garden Workers' Financial Assistance Scheme, approve guidelines of the Jibon Prerana Scheme and extend Apun Ghar and Apun Bahan benefits, among others.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said after the cabinet meeting that the Dibrugarh Airport will be renamed as Dr Bhupen Hazarika Airport. A special one-day Assembly session will be organized to pass a resolution in this regard and forwarded to the Government of India.
As a mark of gratitude to the tea garden workers in the 200 years of Assam Tea, a one-time financial assistance of Rs 5,000 will be provided to 7 lakh workers.
Also, that the cabinet has approved the proposal to extend the benefits of the Apun Ghar and Apun Bahan schemes to both regular employees of the state government and state public sector undertakings.
The cabinet also approved the Chief Minister's Jibon Prerana Scheme. Under this scheme, eligible graduates who are permanent residents of Assam and graduates of the 2004-25 batch will be given Rs 2,500 per month for a year. Research scholars who are doing research in public universities and Divyang research scholars will be provided one-time monetary assistance ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000.
The cabinet has approved the proposal of providing 50% of admissible house rent allowance to 13,822 muster roll, casual and fixed pay workers.
The Assam cabinet has approved the Assam Electronics Components Manufacturing Top-up Scheme, which will provide a 60% top-up on the incentive sanctioned by the Government of India under its Electronic Component Manufacturing Scheme.
Cabinet has also accorded approval to Assam Pump Storage Power Generation Promotion Policy, which aims to position Assam as a hub for pumped hydro power storage.
