Guwahati: State Cabinet Approves Advantage Assam MoUs Worth Rs 7,730 cr

The Assam Cabinet has approved the MoUs worth Rs 7,730 crore signed during Advantage Assam 2.0, including Rs 1,500 crore in foreign investment.

GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet has approved the MoUs worth Rs 7,730 crore signed during Advantage Assam 2.0, including Rs 1,500 crore in foreign investment. This approval has paved the way for the setting up of several cement plants, hotels, breweries, ethanol plants, etc.

Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The MoUs approved will provide employment avenues to around 16,000 youths directly. Kohinoor Pulp and Paper Private Ltd. will invest Rs 981 crore, Inflex Company will invest Rs 378 crore, Rs 827 crore by RPN Speciality Paper Private Ltd, Rs 860 crore by Megh Tech Cement Company, Rs 521 crore by Max Cement Investment, Rs 617 crore by Amrit Cement, etc. The Taj and Marriott Groups will set up big hotels.”

The Chief Minister said, “The Cabinet has approved the Assam Thermal Power Generation Promotion Policy 2025 to ensure energy self-sufficiency for Assam by 2035. This decision will promote private sector participation in thermal power generation and develop 2000 MW thermal power by 2030 and 5000 MW by 2035. The state government will provide land and logistic support free to the investors. If needed, the state government may have 27 per cent stakes in these companies.”

The Chief Minister said, “The state government has in its mind to construct an express highway from Srirampur-Guwahati, Guwahati-Jorhat and Jorhat-Dibrugarh in line with the one from Barapani-Silchar.”

The Chief Minister said that the Cabinet approved Rs 500 crore as a targeted subsidy and normal subsidy to APDCL to make up for the reduction of the power tariff at the rate of Re 1 per unit with effect from April 1, 2025.The Cabinet approved a one-time grant under the Chief Minister’s Atmonirbhar Asoni at the rate of Rs 2 lakh to each of the 347 OBB teachers of Nalbari whose jobs had been terminated.The Chief Minister said that the Cabinet approved Rs 40 crore for the Lala Town Water Supply Scheme in Hailakandi. The Cabinet has also approved the merger of BIEO and Vigilance and Anti-Corruption to make it stronger. The Chief Minister said that now the phrase ‘executive order’ will replace the existing phrase ‘office memorandum’ to add more enforcement ability to such documents.

The Cabinet has approved Rs 5 lakh each as ex gratia to the next of kin of those killed in Pahalgam. The state government will pay the amount along with a condolence message from the Chief Minister to the bereaved family members after May 12.

The cabinet decided to transform the existing water user committee into water and sanitation user committee and pay an extra remuneration to the committee members.
