Digital stamping from July 1 NRI quota for MBBS
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: The State Cabinet took a slew of decisions, including the discontinuation of physical non-judicial stamps, a quota in MBBS for NRI-sponsored students, reengaging retired executive engineers, and an amendment to boiler service rules.
The Cabinet decided to discontinue physical non-judicial stamps through the introduction of digital stamping, with effect from July 1, 2023. The government will rehabilitate the existing stamp vendors with valid licences by converting their establishments into citizen service centres, for which it will provide Rs 1 lakh to each of them.
The Cabinet took the decision to give a boost to digital stamping and ensure the State government cuts down on costs by providing a faster and more transparent payment process via 100 percent digital stamping.
The Cabinet approved the amendment to the MBBS/BDS admission rules and increased the reservations for six communities: Moran, Mottock, Tai Ahom, Chutia, Tea Tribes, and Koch Rajbongshi. The amendment also ensured ten percent of the total remaining MBBS seats after deduction of 15 percent of the all-India quota central pool, NEC quota, and Royal Government of Bhutan quota seats to be reserved annually for NRI/NRI-sponsored students who have cleared NEET UG and also reserved ten percent for economically weaker section quota in six medical colleges located at Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Silchar, Jorhat, Tezpur, and Barpeta.
It is pertinent to mention that for the NRI quota, one of the parents of the candidate must be an NRI. The person sponsoring the education must be an NRI residing outside India and have first-degree relations with the student. The Cabinet also approved autonomous councils to engage retired executive engineers to ensure timely formulation and implementation of their schemes.
The Cabinet approved the amendment to the Assam Boiler Service (Class-I) Rules 2000 to streamline the administration and recruitment processes for the Assam Boiler Service.
