Guwahati: The poll campaign for the first phase of the panchayat election 2025 came to an end on Wednesday afternoon. With this, the stage is all set for the first phase of polling in 14 districts of Upper Assam and Barak Valley on May 2. Polling personnel will leave for their respective polling stations on Thursday.
On the last day of polling for the first phase of the panchayat poll, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister Pabitra Margherita, state Congress president Bhupen Borah, and AGP president Atul Bora, among others, were busy on the campaign trail.
Participating in several election rallies today, the CM said there is no alternative other than BJP-AGP in the panchayats.
Bhupen Borah participated in poll rallies at several places in the Bihpuria constituency. Sarbananda Sonowal addressed rallies in Dibrugarh district, while Pabitra Margherita did so in Sivasagar district. Minister Pijush Hazarika attended a rally at Raha in the Nagaon district, while Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary addressed a poll rally at Chamata in Nalbari district.
Polling for the first stage of the panchayat poll will take place from 7.30 am to 4.30 pm. Voters have to cast their votes for members of Gaon Panchayats, Anchalik Panchayats and Zilla Parishads through paper ballot.
At the conclusion of campaigning at 4.30 pm on Wednesday, the ‘silent period’ has started, and no candidates or political parties are allowed to campaign in areas going to the poll in the first phase on May 2.
