Guwahati: Subsequent to the decision of the Assam Cabinet on Sunday, Assam Police has lodged an FIR against Pakistan national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and unknown others, and the same has been registered as CID PS Case No. 05/2025.

The case has been filed under U/S 48, 61, 152, and 197(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita read with section 13(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

Regarding the registration of the case against Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma took to 'X' to say, "Pursuant to the registration of the case, the DGP, Assam Police, has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter. Assam Police will conduct a professional and completely objective investigation."

The SIT will comprise MP Gupta, SDGP, CID as chairperson, and three members-Pranabjyoti Goswami, AIGP (Admin.), Rosie Kalita, SP (CM's SVC), and Moitrayee Deka, ADCP (West) Guwahati. In the order for constituting the SIT, it is stated that the SIT would co-opt inspectors, sub-inspectors, and constables as needed with the approval of the Assam Police Headquarters. That, the SIT would keep the DGP informed of all developments from time to time.

Meanwhile, regarding the probe into the case, DGP Harmeet Singh said before the media on Monday, "The inquiry will move forward according to the legal process of the CID. It is seen that Ali Tauqeer's utterances, behaviour, and activities are prejudicial to national security, and it will be examined how these are affecting national security. If anybody is connected with him in a conspiracy within the country, Assam, or outside the country, and they have conspired with him against the nation, they will not be spared."
