GUWAHATI: The Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has received project proposals amounting to Rs 720.99 crore for the development of the BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region). The Centre has already sanctioned three BTR projects worth Rs 62.79 crore till mid-December 2024.
Various Bodo organizations signed a Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) with the Central Government in 2020. The MoS had a clause that the Central Government would pump in Rs 750 crore to the BTR in three financial years for its development.
According to the DoNER, the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed on January 27, 2020, inter alia, states that the Government of Assam may earmark a sum of Rs. 250.00 crore per annum for a period of three years for development of the area under BTR. The Government of India (Gol) may contribute an additional amount of Rs. 250 crore per annum for the same period. Out of the Central Government’s outlay of Rs. 750 crore, the DoNER has received project proposals amounting to Rs. 720.99 crore, out of which three projects costing Rs. 62.79 crore have been sanctioned till mid-December this year. The remaining 11 projects, costing Rs. 658.20 crore, are at different stages of sanction. However, according to the DoNER, no fund has been released in respect of sanctioned projects under the BTC (2020) package as no demand request for funds has been submitted by the Government of Assam till December 12, 2024.
