GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had detailed discussions on several projects separately with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Coal and Mine Minister G. Kishen Reddy in New Delhi today.
The meeting discussed issues like mitigating transportation bottlenecks through expansion of railway infrastructure in the state, modernizing technology, improving data sharing, optimising workflow, and embracing collaboration.
The Chief Minister said that Railway Minister Vaishnaw acknowledged the fact that strengthening railway infrastructure through expansion and improving the existing ones are vital to pave the way for building a logistics hub in Assam.
In the other meeting with Coal and Mine Minister Reddy, the Chief Minister urged him to extract new minerals and to deal seamless coal linkage to the upcoming thermal power plants in Assam. The Chief Minister also urged Reddy to expand its area of operation at the Margherita coal mines to help Assam to augment its income from coal. Union minister Reddy assured the Chief Minister that he would look into the requirements of Assam in the crucial coal and mine sector to refuel the economy.
Official sources said that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs recently approved revisions to the country's Shakti Policy setting of coal sector reforms that aim to transparently allocate coal to thermal power plants by simplifying the processes around it.
