Assam: CM’s Vigilance Cell filed Charge sheet against 10 accused in MPLAD scam

CM's Vigilance Cell files charge sheet against 10 accused in MPLAD fund misuse case after completing its investigation.

Guwahati: The Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell (CM's SVC), after completing its investigation, filed a charge sheet against 10 accused individuals connected to a case on the misuse of MPLAD funds.

The charge sheet was filed in Vigilance PS case No. 02/2023 U/S 120B/409/420/201/468/471 IPC read with Sec 7(a)/13(1)(a)/13(2) of PC Act, 1988 R/W Sec 8 of the Assam Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act, 2005, read with Section 41 of the Assam Public Procurement Act 2017, and on receipt of prosecution sanction order against the government servants, the case has been returned in a charge sheet against 10 accused persons in the Court of Special Judge, Assam.

The Vigilance PS Chargesheet No. 13(A) comprises a voluminous 3,756 pages. The accused persons named in the charge sheet are Sarmistha Bora, dismissed Deputy Secretary; Munindra Bordoloi, suspended In-Charge District Development Commissioner (DDC), Kamrup (Metro); Hemanta Dutta, suspended Asst Commissioner, Kamrup (M); Diganta Kalita, suspended Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE); Sankar Kalita, Secy Construction Committee; Partha Pratim Kalita, Secy Construction Committee; Bhaskar Das, Secy Construction Committee; Kamini Das, Secy Construction Committee; Atul Chandra Deka, Secy Construction Committee; and Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, MP, Rajya Sabha.

According to sources, while a prosecution sanction order against the government servants was already given by the state government, the proposal by the CM's SVC for prosecution sanction against MP Ajit Bhuyan has been sent to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs through proper channels.

It is to be noted that the investigation against 3 accused persons, namely, Sukanya Bora, suspended ADC and the then In-Charge District Development Commissioner, Kamrup (M), and also President of 9 Construction Committees; Biswajit Deka, Secretary of Construction Committees; and Jitu Kalita, Secretary of Construction Committees, was already completed, and a charge sheet (No.13/2024) was submitted on December 6, 2024.
