Assam corona cases spike: Infected: 3,900; Recovered: 1,805

GUWAHATI: Assam, on Saturday, recorded 182 new COVID-19 positive cases taking the tally of total infected persons to 3,900; and the toll to eight. Altogether 1,805 patients have so far recovered and discharged from hospitals. The total active corona patients in the State are 2,084.

Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said within 8.8 days, the number of infected persons doubled from 1,800 to 3600. He added that the highest spike took place on June 4 when the State recorded 285 new cases.

While the first COVID-19 positive case was reported on March 31, the first death occurred on April 10. Altogether 100 positive cases were confirmed on May 17; 1000 on May 29; 2000 on June 4; and 3,000 on June 9.

In view of the sudden spike of COVID-positive cases in the State, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday asked the Health and Family Welfare Department to ramp up the testing facilities. Accordingly, the Health department on Saturday notified 12 government hospitals, dispensaries and health centres in the city where public with COVID-19 symptoms can go for testing from Monday. These testing facilities will be located at GMCH, MMCH, Dhirenpara FRU, Pandu FRU, Ulubari Urban Hospital, Dispur Capital Dispensary, Khanapara State Dispensary, Lokhra State Dispensary, Bamuni Maidam (East Guwahati) State Dispensary, Santipur (West Guwahati) State Dispensary and Udalbakra MPHC. The testing timings will be from 10 am to 1 pm.
