GUWAHATI/NAGAON: The Pranab Baruah Kalakshetra has named noted artist Dilip Tamuli for the Pranab Baruah Artist Award-2024.

The Pranab Baruah Kalakshetra has been conferring this award in memory of renowned artist Pranab Baruah, who tried relentlessly to develop the state with the help of his magic brush. The award goes to an artist or sculptor from the Northeast every year to recognise their lifelong dedicated services. The award carries a memento, a citation, and Rs 25,000.

Dilip Tamuli has made significant contributions to the field of art in Assam. Born in 1958 in Majuli, Tamuli pursued his higher education in fine arts at Viswa-Bharati University, Santiniketan, and later received a scholarship to study at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. He has participated in numerous art exhibitions, workshops, and camps, and his artworks have received acclaim both nationally and internationally.

As the working president of the Assam Fine Arts and Crafts Society, Tamuli has been instrumental in promoting the development of art in the state. His creative endeavours have enriched the cultural landscape of Assam, and this award is a testament to his tireless contributions to the world of art.

Previous recipients of the Pranab Baruah Silpi Award include notable artists such as Shobha Brahma, Benu Misra, Neel Pawan Baruah, Adya Sarma, Biren Singha, Nani Borpujari, Pulak Gogoi, Jiten Hazarika, Janak Jhankar Narzary, Kusha Kanta Dev Goswami, Ravi Ram Brahma, Tralukya Dutta, Saleha Ahmed, Kandarpa Nath Sarma, Kiran Shankar, and Champak Barbora, among others.
