Guwahati: Indreswar Kalita, Secretary to the Government of Assam in the Excise Department, has been placed under suspension with effect from the date of his arrest on January 29, 2025.
The suspension order of Kalita was issued in a notification by the Department of Personnel.
According to the suspension order, Indreswar Kalita, IAS, Secretary in the state Excise Department, was arrested by the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell on January 29, 2025, in connection with the Vigilance P.S. Case No.02/2024 under Section 13(1)(b)/13(2) and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The order was issued in exercise of powers conferred by subrule 2 of Rule 3 of the All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969. Indreswar Kalita is deemed to have been placed under suspension with effect from the date of his arrest on January 29, 2025, until further orders.
The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance team arrested Indreswar Kalita following raids at his residence in Guwahati on charges of accumulating wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The Vigilance P.S. Case No. 02/2024 was registered against him earlier this year, leading to a thorough investigation and recent raids at multiple locations. The investigation has revealed that Kalita possesses multiple assets valued at 200% more than his declared income.
A CM’s Vigilance team conducted a raid at his residence in Nirvana Apartment, Sundarpur. Additionally, it emerged that he owns extensive land and property in Beltola and Bhetapara, as well as prime real estate in Uzan Bazar and Zoo Road.
