Guwahati: The first batch of Haj pilgrims is scheduled to depart for Medina from Guwahati by air on May 3. The Joint State Haj Committee of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, etc., has completed the preparations for the departure of the Haj pilgrims.
Chairman of the Joint State Haj Committee, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, etc., and president of the Haj Pilgrim Reception Committee, Nekibur Zaman, told the media today, “A total of 2782 pilgrims have been selected for Haj 2025. Of this, 1927 are male and 855 are female pilgrims. 2742 Haj pilgrims are from Assam, 26 from Meghalaya, 13 from Nagaland and 1 from Mizoram will participate in the Haj this year. Pilgrims will leave from five departure points—Guwahati, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad. The first batch of 321 Haj pilgrims will leave from Guwahati on May 3. They will be accorded a ceremonial departure at the Haji Musafirkhana at Guwahati on May 2. This time, 17 Haj inspectors will accompany the pilgrims, along with a medical team.”
The office of the Joint State Haj Committee stated that out of 2782 selected pilgrims, 257 applicants have cancelled their Haj journey due to various reasons like financial, medical, etc. Therefore, a total of 2542 are scheduled to participate in the Haj pilgrimage from the Northeastern states concerned. 1567 pilgrims will embark on their Haj journey from Guwahati, 766 from Kolkata, 198 from Mumbai, 9 from Delhi and 2 from Hyderabad.
Five flights will leave with Haj pilgrims from the Guwahati embarkation point on May 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8. The flights will carry the Haj pilgrims directly to Medina, from where the pilgrims will travel to Mecca, the holiest city for Muslims, for the annual Haj pilgrimage. The Haj pilgrims from Guwahati will arrive back from the cherished pilgrimage after 45 days.
