Assam Flood: 1,94,916 people hit in 229 villages

GUWAHATI: The first spate of flood in Assam has turned critical with the Brahmaputra and the Jia Bharali rivers flowing above the danger levels at Neamatighat in Jorhat district and NH Rd in Sonitpur district respectively. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin, on Tuesday, stated that floods have affected 1,94,916 people in 229 villages of 17 Revenue Circles across the seven districts of Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Lakhimpur, Nalbari and Tinsukia.

So far, the highest number of 1, 68,196 people have been affected in Goalpara district, followed by 10, 943 persons in Nalbari. Altogether 8,941 people are residing in 28 relief camps across Goalpara district. SDRF and NDRF personnel are using boats to rescue marooned people.

Erosion has been reported from Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, and Nalbari. An embankment was breached by Buradia River at Amoni village in Nalbari. While roads have been damaged at Dhemaji, Goalpara, and Nalbari; bridges were damaged at Bongaigaon, Goalpara, and Nalbari.
