GUAHATI: With a number of rivers flowing above their respective danger levels, the flood situation in the State has worsened, leading to the death of a person in the past 24 hours.

While the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat in Jorhat district, the Dikhow and the Disang (at Nanglamuraghat) are flowing above the danger mark in Sivasagar district, the Dhansiri at Numaligarh and the Jia Bharali at Capital and Capital NT Road crossing in Sonitpur district. One death has been reported from Nazira.

As many as four districts – Dhemaji, Jorhat, Sivasagar and Dibrugarh – have been affected in the current wave of floods that has affected seven revenue circles comprising 79 villages. The flood has also affected 3,634 hectare cropland and 28,462 people. As many as 12,113 people have been affected in Dhemaji district alone.

Nine relief camps have been set up giving shelter to 953 people.

According to the flood bulletin issued by the ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority) on Monday, many embankments, roads, bridges and culverts have been damaged by the floods.
