GUWAHATI: The flood situation across Assam remained critical even on Thursday with five more persons dead, taking the State's toll to 71 this year even as three persons are missing. Meanwhile the main rivers and their tributaries are flowing much above the danger level at various places across the State.

Among the dead are one each at North Lakhimpur in Lakhimpur district; Senga in Barpeta district, and at Matia in Goalpara district; besides two at Mayong in Morigaon district. Among the three persons missing during the last 24 hours, two have been reported from Barpeta district, and one from Goalpara district. Three more deaths (not related to flood) have been reported one each from Sipajhar in Drrang district, Bilasipara in Dhubri district and Morigaon district.

Personnel of NDRF, SDRF along with the authorities of various districts using 113 boats have evacuated 2,737 marooned persons from various places during the last 24 hours.

While the Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat in Jorhat, Tezpur in Sonitpur, Guwahati, Goalpara and Dhubri; Dhansiri at Numaligarh in Golaghat district; the Jia Bharali at NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur district; the Kopili at Kampur and Dharamtul – both in Nagaon district; Beki at Road Bridge in Barpeta district; the Barak at AP Ghat in Cachar and also at Badarpur Ghat in Karimganj district; besides the Kushiyara also in Karimganj district.

Altogether 27 out of the 33 districts of the State have affected during the last 24 hour, said the daily bulletin of ASDMA.

The flood-affected districts are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Baksa, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.

As many as 39,79,563 persons of 3,218 villages/ localities in 93 Revenue Circles have been affected. Total crop area affected is 131,368.27 hectares. Altogether 303 relief camps, including 445 relief distribution centres, have been set up. Altogether 49,313 affected persons have taken shelter in these relief camps.

A total of 13,30,965 big animals, 7,59,717 small animals and 12,85,754 poultry have been affected till Thursday evening.

While 20 houses have been damaged fully, 224 others suffered partial damage.

Embankments, roads and bridges/culverts have been breached at many places. Erosion has been reported from various places in Bongaigaon and Udalguri districts.

In the Kaziranga National Park 99 camps have been affected, and six others out of 223 have been vacated. On the other hand, while 79 Park animals have died, 121 others have been rescued till date. In Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, while 12 camps have been affected; four have been shifted.
