GUWAHATI: With six more deaths during the last 24 hours, the flood toll in Assam went up to 33 on Wednesday evening while the toll in landslides also rose to 24 with the death of a person identified as Shankar Pashi (50 years of age) reported in Cachar district.

Of the six dead in floods, three have been reported from Barpeta district (with two at Sarthebari and one at Baghbar); besides one each from Chapar (Dhubri district), Kaliabor (Nagaon district) and Tihu (Nalbari district), stated the daily flood bulletin of ASDMA.

While the Brahmaputra is flowing above danger level at Neamatighat in Jorhat, Tezpur in Sonitpur, Guwahati, Goalpara and Dhubri; the Dhansiri at Numaligarh in Golaghat district; the Jia Bharali at NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur district; and the Kopili at Kampur in Nagaon district.

Altogether 21 districts have been affected by the floods in the State. These are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Chirang, Darrang, Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia.

As many as 14,95,321 people of 2,197 villages in 59 Revenue Circles have been affected. Total crop area affected is 87,018.17 hectares. A total of 109 relief camps, including 145 relief distribution centres, have been set up in the State. Altogether 15,281 affected people have been given shelter in the relief camps. As many as 8,00,189 big and 4,29,708 small animals have also affected by the floods.

Embankments, roads and bridges/culverts have been breached at many places. Erosion has been reported from Baksa district.

While 107 camps have been affected and six camps have been vacated in the Kaziranga National Park. On the other hand, while two hog deer died, 27 other wild animals have been rescued across the Park till date.

In the RG Orang National Park, flood water has affected 12 camps. Death of a hog deer has been reported from the Park.
