GUWAHATI: Two rivers – Beki and Pagladiya – are flowing above their danger levels in lower Assam. Surging waters from these two rivers inundated several villages. Incessant rains in the past few days led to the deluge.

The current wave of floods in the state affected 12 revenue circles in eight districts – Bajali, Baksa, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Tamulpur and Udalguri.

According to the flood bulletin of the ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority), the floods affected 36,601 people of 91 villages. As many as 1,856 people are taking shelter in 11 relief camps. The Udalguri district alone has six relief camps, giving shelter to 1,250 people.

Floods and landslides claimed 199 lives in this season, and five people are missing.
