GUWAHATI: The State Government has moved the Centre for the first SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) instalment for fiscal 2022-23.

Lashed by the current wave of floods and landslides, the Revenue and Disaster Department moved the MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs) with a letter on behalf of the State Government for the first instalment of SDRF. The State Government now needs such funds to fight floods.

The SDRF allocation for the state in the current fiscal is Rs 901 crore. The SDRF funding pattern is 90:10 (90 per cent share by the Centre and 10 per cent matching share by the State Government). The Centre releases SDRF funds in two instalments.

The State Government spends SDRF money for repairing and restoring damage due to floods and any other disasters, besides GR (gratuitous relief) to disaster-affected people and compensation for loss of life in any disaster.

The SDRF allocation to the state in the last fiscal (2021-22) was Rs 858 crore. The Centre also released Rs 44.37 crore under NDRF (National Disaster Response Fund) to the state last year. The NDRF released to states is 100 per cent central share.
