Assam Government suspended two Assam Civil Service (ACS) officers

GUWAHATI: The State Government suspended two ACS officers in connection with alleged large-scale irregularities in appointment in Assam Fishery Development Corporation Limited (AFDCL), where they were working earlier. The two officers are Anuradha Adhikari and Naren Chandra Basumatary. They were working in the AFDCL as managing directors at different times.

The Personnel Department of the State Government issued a notification regarding the suspension order. The allegation against the two officers is that they regularised some employees and appointed some contractual employees in the corporation, violating rules.

The Government did form a high-power committee to inquire into the alleged anomalies on March 10, 2022. The Government suspended the two officers based on the inquiry report.

The Government will initiate DPs (departmental proceedings) against the two suspended ACS officers under the provisions of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964.

Adhikari was the Joint Secretary of the Border Protection and Development Department, and Basumatary was a secretary of BTR, at the time of their suspension.

Meanwhile, the State Government shuffled a few ACS officers today. According to a notification issued by the Personnel Department, the government transferred and posted Inspector General of Prisons Barnali Sharma as Secretary of the Tea Tribes Welfare Department; APSC's Principal Controller of Examinations Pubali Gohain as Inspector General of Prisons; Revenue and Disaster Management Joint Secretary Chinmoy Nath as APSC's Principal Controller of Examinations; Dhubri ADC Darshana Chetia as Deputy Secretary of the Personnel Department with an additional charge as Joint Secretary of the APSC; IT Secretary Nandita Dutta as Secretary of the Skill, Employment, and Entrepreneurship Department; and Nagaon Assistant Commissioner Pooja Das as Assistant Director of Land Records
