Guwahati: Following a direction from the School Education Department, meetings were held in different districts between the respective district education officers and the heads of schools regarding the new academic session 2025-26. After the conclusion of the meetings, the Inspectors of Schools (ISs), District Elementary Education Officers (DEEO) and district mission coordinators of SSA issued guidelines in their respective districts for students, teachers and non-teaching staff in schools.

The guidelines focused on attendance of students and staff, stating that all teachers must reach the school before 9:00 a.m. and should leave the school as per timing for different categories of schools. Also, both in-time and out-time should be reflected in the Shiksha Setu app. If any teacher is late for 3 consecutive days, then the school head will deduct one day’s casual leave from the outstanding leave, and in case of no outstanding leave, then one day’s pay cut will be done. The class teacher of each class will be personally responsible for taking attendance of each student, which will be verified by the school head each day. In case of any network issue for giving attendance of students and teachers in the Shiksha Setu App, then a geo-tagged group photo in the WhatsApp group should be created for the purpose.

It is also mentioned that all LP schools must remain open till 2:05 p.m., and all ME/MV schools as well as all HS/HSS schools must remain open till 3:25 p.m.

It is also mandated that all non-teaching staff of the school must reach the school before 10:00 a.m. and should remain present in the school till 4:30 p.m. so that if any official reports are required, they can provide these.

All post-graduate (PG) teachers must take classes in the high school section, and the timetable should be prepared accordingly.

Moreover, the school head will be responsible for ensuring that the instructions given are followed strictly without fail. Hard copies of attendance/classes by PG teachers, etc., must be kept in the school for further reference.

The guidelines also state that no teacher, headmaster or principal should visit the IS or DEEO office before 3 PM.

Also, all new admissions should be completed in all schools, including govt, provincialised, recognised, venture, private, etc., on or before April 10, 2025, and accordingly, records of promotion and new entry in the Shiksha Setu portal should be completed by April 12, 2025.

Regular attendance of students in school is compulsory; otherwise, students will be deprived of facilities provided by the Govt. of Assam and also automatically dropped from schools. The Head of School will ensure the same; it is also stated.

All the BEEOs have been directed to allot all govt. and provincialised schools of his/her block among all Block functionaries (each with 5 to 10 schools) to properly monitor the attendance of students in school as well as in the SS portal. They will randomly call the guardians of the students who are irregular in school and ensure their attendance.
