TINSUKIA: A mass marriage was solemnised where as many as 251 couples got married in a single ceremony at Sri Sri Sivdham Mandir at Makum Road in Tinsukia today. The ceremony was held under the aegis of Lok Kalyan Samiti (NE), Janakalyan Sangthan Jaipur (Rajasthan), and Tinsukia Zilla Bibaha Samity. Most of the couples belonged to the tea garden community and were from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. A large number of people thronged to the venue to witness the event.

Earlier in the morning, women, with pitchers filled with water participated in the colourful ceremonial 'Kalah Jatra' began from Devipukhuri, chanting religious hymns, and culminating at the marriage venue. The procession was led by Kajal Gohain and Krishna Baruah. President and Secretary of Xamuhik Bibaha Sanskar Samity.
