Assam: More rain predicted, thunderstorm and lightning expected at isolated places

Guwahati: Several areas of Upper Assam received heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, with North Lakhimpur recording that state’s highest rainfall of 14 cm.

The IMD has also predicted moderate rainfall at many places over Assam until June 21.

The highest rainfall of over 5 cm was recorded in the state as follows: North Lakhimpur in Lakhimpur district, 14 cm; Chouldhowaghat (district Lakhimpur), 12 cm; Nematighat (district Jorhat), 7 cm; Bihubar (district Sivasagar), 7 cm; Amarghat (district Cachar), 6 cm; Raha (district Nagaon), 6 cm; Margherita (district Tinsukia), 6 cm; Bihpuria (district Lakhimpur), 6 cm; Borpathar (district Golaghat), 5 cm; Silchar (district Cachar), 5 cm; Majuli (district Majuli), 5 cm; and Dhollabazar (district Tinsukia), 5 cm.

Regarding the forecast valid until June 21, the IMD says, “Moderate rain very likely to occur at many places over Assam. Thunderstorm and lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places over Assam.”

5 revenue circles in 4 districts of Assam are still in the grip of floods. As of the date, the death toll in the first wave of floods in the state is 22.
