GUWAHATI: Without naming Gaurav Gogoi, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the SIT (Special Investigation Team) got some specific inputs regarding a visit of a Congress MP to Islamabad. He said that the SIT will grill the Congress MP and his wife in June or July and is likely to submit the report in September this year.
Speaking to the media here today, the Chief Minister said, "After submission of the SIT, we may hand over the case to a central agency if the need arises. It has come to the notice of the SIT investigators that the Congress MP went to Islamabad through the Attari Border Post without informing the Government of India and the Government of Assam and stayed in Islamabad for 15 days. Back from Islamabad, he went to Nepal, where the ISI had a hideout. The SIT is investigating 'if the MP's visit to Nepal soon after his return from Islamabad has any link'. The SIT is collecting information as to who from Pakistan received the MP at Attari Post and what he did in Islamabad for 15 days."
The Chief Minister also said, "The wife of the Congress MP had been working for three years in an organisation in Islamabad. From there, she came to New Delhi and joined an organisation. The organisation said that it did not require her service in their organisation. However, a party from Pakistan insisted the organisation keep her. The Pakistan party also took on the responsibility of her salary burden."
