GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a warning that the government will take stern action against anyone who dares to defend Pakistan-sponsored terrorism from the soil of Assam, directly or indirectly.

The Assam Police have already arrested AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam 'on the charge of treason' based on his 'misleading and instigating statement regarding the Pahalgam attack'.

Speaking to the media today, the Chief Minister said, "Let it be known clearly: those who attempt to justify, normalise or dilute the brutal murder of innocent civilians are not exercising the freedom of expression; they are standing against the soul of India."

Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Assam extends full support to the stand taken by the Government of India against Pakistan to root out terrorism. Ravaged by insurgency for decades, Assam feels the pain of terror attacks. I, on behalf of the people of Assam, extend sympathy to all those who lost their lives in the terror attack in Pahalgam. As a mark of solidarity towards the victims of the Pahalgam attack, the Assam government will extend an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of each of the victims."

The Chief Minister said, "In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, we're concerned about Bangladesh following the latest hobnobbing between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Since Bangladesh is our bordering neighbour, we have alerted our security agencies along the Bangladesh border."
