GUWAHATI: "Assam Police, is a very dedicated and professional police force as it has proved time and again that it is worthy to secure the lives and properties of our people and at the same time deal with the changing dynamics of crimes," said State Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi at the 71st Assam Police Day at 4th APBn in Kahilipara, Guwahati today.

Prof Jagdish Mukhi said that he always believed that being in police service amounts to carrying a lot of responsibilities and trust of common citizens. He also said that people always see the police personnel as someone who is dedicated enough to uphold the rule of law and ensure justice to the last person at the bottom of the pyramid. He further asked the police administration to keep honing their skills with utmost importance on basic policing to secure the lives and properties of all with special attention to the less privileged.

Considering the changing dynamics of the commission of crimes, Prof. Mukhi said that the government has established a Cyber Forensic Lab-cum Training Centre at Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, Guwahati, besides taking steps to set up forensic labs across the state to help and expedite the Police Department in criminal investigations. The Cyber Forensic Lab-cum-Training Centre which is equipped with cyber forensic tools and other modern tools will help in cybercrime investigation, the Governor added. Given the rising trend of sophisticated digital crimes, the Governor emphasized constant technological up-gradation of the infrastructure to help the police forces to deal with crimes and taking adequate steps to thwart subversive activities carried out taking the help of technology.

Moreover, advanced training encompassing all technological skills are being provided to the Assam Police personnel to keep track of the changing times. He also said that the Assam Police is so far successful in handling the insurgency and eliminating it from its roots in the state. Still, the department is working hard to give citizens adequate service and security to live freely in the society, he said.
