GUWAHATI: The Assam Police started a statewide crackdown on the illegal sale of beef, including in Guwahati, under the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021. The police held several people in this connection, besides the seizure of beef.

In Guwahati, the police apprehended six persons from hotels at Masjid Gali in the Jalukbari area, seized 72 kg of beef from the Kotahbari area, apprehended two people from the Bijay Nagar area, etc. The police conducted similar raids in Darrang, Kokrajhar, Nagaon, Hailakandi, Dibrugarh, etc. The police raided around 189 hotels and seized around 1.50 quintals of beef, besides apprehending over 100 people.
