GUWAHATI: The APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) has 'guaranteed' that it will recruit eligible candidates to fill up five lakh vacant jobs in the government sector and 25 lakh jobs in the private sector within the next five years if it forms the next government in the State. The party also promised to reserve 50 per cent government jobs for women, adding that it will further ensure that preference is given to the local people in the private sector. In this regard, the party promised to set up 'a Ministry of Job Creation'. This was informed by Congress leaders in a press meet here on Thursday.

AICC general secretary and APCC in-charge Jitendra Singh said, "Congress leaders covered 10,000 km during the 'Asom Basaon Ahok Yatra'. The masses in each constituency demanded solution to unemployment, which appeared as the single biggest concern of the people."

He added, "The youths voted the BJP-led government because they were told they will get 25 lakh jobs. However, they only got the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act)."

APCC president Ripun Bora said, "During the last election time, the BJP promised 25 lakh jobs. But, they could provide only around 80,000 during their last five years in power here."

Bora posed, "Why are 58,000 sanctioned posts lying vacant in various departments? Why didn't the Sonowal-led government fill up these vacant posts? If the Congress comes to power then these posts will be filled up on a priority basis."

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Debabrata Saikia affirmed, "Apart from the five lakh jobs in the government sector, we will create 25 lakh additional jobs in the private sector. We have already consulted economists and experts in this regard; and we are sure that in the private sector alone, as many as 25 lakh jobs can be created across Assam in the next five years."

Chairman of the 'Congress Campaign Committee', Pradyut Bordoloi pointed out, "Assam has shortage of 40,000 Health workers, 38,000 school teachers, 12,000 college teachers, and 15,000 policemen. The Department for Welfare of Tribals and OBCs has 6,878 vacant posts.

"It is possible to provide employment to 1 lakh youth in the Government sector annually. In other words, approximately 8,300 posts can be filled up every month in the public sector."

'All India Mahila Congress and Outreach Committee' chairman Sushmita Dev stated, "We will reserve 50 per cent posts for women in government jobs. We will open a Ministry of Job Creation."

The party also launched a website for online employment registration for the unemployed youths of Assam – www. congressor5guarantee.in. If the Congress comes to power then it will give preference to the candidates who register through this website.

Among the leaders who addressed the media were MPs Gaurav Gogoi and Abdul Khaleque, as well as party's publicity committee chairman Rakibul Hussain.
