GUWAHATI: The APSC (Assam Public Service Commission) will conduct the 'Combined Competitive Examination' (CCE)-2020 on the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) model.

Elaborating on the move, APSC Chairman Pallab Bhattacharyya told The Sentinel, "The Government of Assam requested us to conduct the CCE-2020 for filling up 331 vacant posts in the ACS (Assam Civil Services) and allied services. The personnel (A) Department has already amended the rules so that the examination can be conducted in the UPSC model. All aspirants must go through 'The Assam Public Services Combined Competitive Examination (Amendment) Rules-2019', which can be downloaded in the APSC website.

"For the first time, applicants will have to apply in the online mode."

Bhattacharyya further said, "We expect the prelims to be conducted in the last part of November or in December. The preliminary examinations will be held on two papers."

On September 8, the APSC floated the advertisement to fill up the 331 vacant posts. Of these, while 121 posts are in the ACS, 69 are in the Assam Police Service (APS). The other vacancies are as follows: Block Development Officer: 33; Sub-Registrar: 31; Inspector of Taxes: 27; Labour Inspector: 18; Excise Inspector: seven; Superintendent of Taxes: six; District Transport Officer: five; Assistant Employment Officer: four; and Assistant Manager of Industries: 10 posts.

Answering a query on the results of CCE-2018, Bhattacharyya said, "We have not been able to declare the results due to an ongoing case in the Gauhati High Court. The next hearing is on September 15, 2020. The written (Main) examination results are in the final stage. If the Court allows, we'll announce the results."

Mentionably, the CEE-2018 was held for filling 257 vacant posts in the ACS and allied Services.
