Haflong: There are doubts that more than 10 labourers are still trapped, while 17 managed to come out of the coal mine near Umrangso in Dima Hasao district on Monday.
According to sources, the Assam government has requested the army to assist in the ongoing rescue operations at the mine.
Meanwhile, Minister Kaushik Rai rushed to the site of the incident and is supervising the rescue operations there.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "We have requested the army to help in the rescue efforts, and already SDRF and NDRF personnel have been rushed to the spot."
The sad incident occurred at the coal mine no. 19 near Tin Kilo of Umrangso on Monday.
Several workers were trapped in a coal mine at around 10 am following the sudden entry of a huge quantity of water into the mine.
It is reported that till now 17 workers managed to escape while more than ten workers are still trapped.
Dima Hasao DDMA stated that the SDRF team from Hojai has reached the site, and the rescue operation will start tomorrow. The army is also expected to reach there by tomorrow. The District Commissioner and other officials reached the place of the mishap to take stock of the situation.
