
Upgrade to Dima Hasao roads n Rs 843 crore grant to BTR n Rs 400 crore for Swahid Kanaklata University

Guwahati: The state cabinet on Wednesday took several major decisions, including the upgradation of roads in Dima Hasao, a grant to BTR, Swahid Kanaklata University, among others.
Briefing the media, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the cabinet has accorded approval to the setting up of Swahid Kanaklata University at Gohpur at a cost of Rs 400 crore. The main objective of the university will be to provide courses in tandem with Industry 4.0 and 5.0, where advanced technologies like AI and Robotics will be taught. IIT-Guwahati and JNU have been roped in to design the curriculum of the university.
Another major decision is to upgrade a total of 438 km of roads in Dima Hasao to national highway standards. For this, the cabinet today approved Rs 3,875 crore. Of this, around 85% will be World Bank assistance, and the remaining 20% will be borne by the state. With the upgradation of the roads, tourism in Dima Hasao is expected to receive a tremendous boost.
The cabinet also approved Rs 843 crore for BTR as a one-time grant.
Further, the cabinet approved Rs 1450 crore for the implementation of Mahila Udyamita Achoni and CM Axom Atmanirbhar Achoni.
Moreover, the cabinet approved the CM Jibon Anuprerana Scheme, which will enable researchers at government colleges to receive Rs 25,000 as one-time assistance. Divyang researchers will get Rs 40,000 as one-time assistance to pursue research.
Another decision was taken to change the nomenclature of District SPs to Senior SPs. The SPs in Co-districts will now be known as Co-district SPs.
In order to give a boost to farmers’ organisations, the cabinet today decided that Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) connected with export promotion will be provided a one-time grant. Rs 15 lakh will be provided to each of the 300 FPOs and FPCs.
