GUWAHATI: The e-office system of the Assam government that went awry over a week ago is yet to be restored. The disposal of e-files by the state administration came to a grinding halt, making the administration and the public suffer.
The state administration expected that the system would be fixed by the end of last week, but the problem is yet to be solved.
According to sources in the GAD (General Administration Department), the state government has been keeping in touch with the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, NIC, and RailTel Corporation to restore the e-office system but to no avail. According to sources, RailTel Corporation, a Navratna PSU, has all along been maintaining the e-office system of Assam.
Being the fag end of the financial year, February-March is a crucial period for the sanctioning of schemes, payment of bills, and whatnot. Since the noting and disposal of all files are done through the e-office system, the administration has almost collapsed. The e-office system covered the state secretariat, all offices of directorates, offices of the district commissioners, etc., in the state.
The offices, however, dispose of a few important files manually in the old system. According to sources, the e-office system was restored for about an hour on Monday. The system was very slow, and the officials could not work. Today, the system is not at all working.
According to sources, the main server of the e-office system of the state is in New Delhi. Due to a technical snag in the server in New Delhi, the e-office system in Assam has failed.
