Guwahati: The Assam government has provided 28 businessmen and 34 retired officers with personal security officers (PSOs).
This was stated by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in the Assembly today. He said that the State Security Review Committee examines the threat assessment to certain people and recommends provision of PSOs.
The CM said, “According to the committee’s recommendations, PSOs were provided to 28 businessmen, of which 14 businessmen paid a certain amount to the government for the PSOs. On the other hand, 34 retired civil and police officers were provided PSOs after threat assessment by the committee. In the office of a businessman in Panikhaiti, six Home Guards have been stationed, and the government will be paid for their services.”
“Apart from this, retired chief secretaries and DGPs are placed in the X-plus category, and security is provided to them on that basis. Similarly, MLAs and MPs are provided three PSOs and two Home Guards each for their residences. Due to security reasons, the names of those provided PSOs cannot be revealed,” he also said.
