GUWAHATI: Assam experienced a drastic fall in tea production in March 2026. According to the latest report of the Tea Board India, Assam produced 17.38 million kg of tea in March 2026 as compared to 28.61 million kg in March 2025, recording a decline of 11.23 million kg in production.

In March 2026, big growers in the state produced 7.21 million kilos of tea, and small growers produced 10.17 million kilos. In March 2025, big growers of the state produced 10.07 million kg of tea, and small growers produced 18.54 million kg.

The report of the Tea Board India further said that the country as a whole produced 66.86 million kg of tea in March 2026 as compared to 67.85 million kg of tea in March 2025.  As much as 60.33 million of the 66.86 million kg of tea produced in March in the country this year was CTC, 5.59 million kg was Orthodox tea and 0.94 million kg was green tea.

The circles believe that the fall in tea production in the state is direct fallout of climate change. This is the season for tea production.
