TINSUKIA: Tinsukia Police busted a human trafficking racket operating in the tea garden belt of Tinsukia district and Arunachal Pradesh and rescued 2 minor girls from Arunachal Capital Complex and apprehended 9 traffickers today. The operation was led by newly appointed DSP of Tinsukia Nishita Jagtap and SI Riyaz Ali.

According to Tinsukia Police, two minor girls were abducted from school on December 26, and an FIR was lodged on December 29 at Tinsukia Sadar PS. Police, in the course of investigation, apprehended a person on whose submission police arrested 8 more from different locations and rescued two abducted minor girls, each from Itanagar and Naharlagun.

The traffickers confessed to having sold the girls for Rs 2 lakh each and said that they mostly targeted poor girls from the tea garden belt. The arrested persons have been identified as Suraj Bhumij (22 years) and Nishita Bhumij (21) of Nakhrai No. 1 of Balupara, Bishal Barman (35 years) and Sita Barman (25 years) of Gelapukhuri Road, Fulmoni Guwala (50 years) of Chanmari Tinali, Biren Taid (45 years) of Lezaihulla in Tinsukia district, Pankaj Doley (30), and Rijumoni Taid of Dhakuakhana and Udip Sarma (28) of Duliajan. The accused have been booked in case number 472/2024 u/s 61(2)/140(3)/143 (5) BNS.
