GUWAHATI: Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck will arrive in Guwahati on a three-day visit to Assam as part of his India tour.

In consultation with the Ministry of External Affairs, the State Government has taken all necessary measures to offer a rousing welcome to the King of the Himalayan Kingdom. On behalf of the State Government, the GAD (General Administration Department) and the Home and Political Department are set to provide all logistic support to the King during his visit to the state. The Personnel Department, on the other hand, attached 12 additional ACS officers to the Home and Political Department for the smooth arrangement of programmes during the King's visit.

According to sources, the King will arrive at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi (LGBI) at Borjhar in the morning tomorrow. The State Government will offer him a grand welcome at the airport. The King will visit the Kamakhya Temple. He will halt for the night in a hotel in the city.

On November 4, the King will visit Kaziranga National Park and stay for the night there. The State Government will host a dinner at Kaziranga in his honour. During his visit, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will meet the King.

On November 5, he will leave for New Delhi from the Rowriah Airport in Jorhat.

IANS adds: During his week-long visit to India, the King is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and other senior government officials of the Central Government. The monarch will be accompanied by senior officials of the Bhutan government.

During his visit, which will continue through November 10, he will also visit Assam and Maharashtra.

India and Bhutan enjoy unique ties of friendship and cooperation, which are characterized by understanding and mutual trust, and the visit would provide an opportunity for both sides to review the entire gamut of bilateral cooperation and further advance the exemplary bilateral partnership across diverse sectors, official sources said.
